Cheadle Civic Society photographic archive

1860s - 1990s

A photographic record of the history of Cheadle

More than 800 archive photographs available to view online

Since its inception in 1964, many members of the Cheadle Civic Society have taken photographs of local scenes, people, places, buildings and special occasions and many of these pictures are now available to view online.

In addition, many other older photographs of Cheadle which were taken in previous times have also been donated to the Society for archival purposes and these too have been added to the web site.

To view the photographs, either select a decade from the index on the left and view the photographs in a list or enter any keyword (Eg. Bruntwood) into the search window at the top right.

While every effort has been made to list each image into the correct decade when it was taken, there are some older images which contain no date details at all, and as such, a "best guess" has been made as to when the photograph was taken.

Inevitably, the quality of the images varies considerably and while some have been digitally enhanced to remove fading, tears, creases, scratches and other blemishes associated with many older printed photographs, most are not of the same quality which is produced by modern digital cameras and this must be borne in mind when the images are viewed.

Please Note: Most of these images have copyright restrictions and as such any copying of them is not permitted.
